| Sears Point Raceway, Sonoma, CA Dr. Northon first mapped Sears Point Raceway for the NASCAR Winston Cup road course race in May 1995. The original map, made from existing maps and air photos that she shot, was then adapted to provide specific maps for RV parking, traffic flow and event management. A version later that year emphasized the drag strip for the NHRA Autolite Nationals series in July. Continuous changes (demolition, construction and paving) on the extensive acreage of Sears Point Raceway led to further updates in later years. |
Drag strip maps for the 1997 NHRA National Dragster Fan Guide
In fall 1996, NHRA's fan guide, National Dragster, commissioned
Dr. Northon to entirely recreate the eighteen drag strip maps for their 1997 fan
guide. The editors' goal was to have the individual tracks represented in a perspective
view that also identified the major areas of interest on the track (tower, restrooms,
grandstands, concessions, etc.). Time was limited, and individual site visits were
impractical. Using air and ground photos and existing maps, Dr. Northon assembled
a team to develop a new look for the fan guide maps.
Shown are examples of three tracks. These were done in two models--on the right,
the bird's eye view that was published in the Fan Guide, and on the left a
full view including sky.
