Gilroy Garlic Festival, Gilroy, CA

With air photos, site plans and several ground checks, a map of the Gilroy Garlic Festival was created for the security team to successfully manage this world-famous event. Certain areas of concern (money collection gates, credential check points, alcoholic beverage sales areas and traffic and pedestrian flow) were emphasized in order to facilitate management and quick response times. One version of the map was prepared with an alphanumeric grid for the Gilroy Police Department and the security management team. This was a particularly challenging project since the festival and its components are only temporary; they are set up in Christmas Hill Park only a few days before the event.

Sonoma County Fair, Santa Rosa, CA

This large multi-use fairground was originally mapped by Dr. Northon in 1995 from existing maps. Very detailed information was added from her personal ground checking and aerial photos that she had taken herself. One version of the map was created to define emergency evacuation routes for fire, seismic (the site sits very close to the fault where activity in 1969 demolished some parts of the fairground) or other potentially catastrophic events. The map was updated in 1996 for use by the security event management team.

Sonoma-Marin Fairgrounds, Petaluma, CA

The compact Sonoma-Marin fairground was first mapped by Dr. Northon in 1995 using an existing site plan. She also made several site visits and took aerial photos herself. Maps were created for event management (security and evacuation) as well as for a color program printed for the general public.  The map was updated in 2000 for management, and the map has a "clickable" format for the web. A location map was also designed for use by fair management.

Dixon May Fair, Dixon, CA

In 1996 the fairground's security and event management team commissioned Dr. Northon to adapt the existing site map to highlight ticket gates, the entertainment stages, and areas serving alcohol. Site visits were made to field check the information. Page size maps with security information on the back were laminated for ease-of-use by the security staff.  The fairground has been continually updated and new plans showing arena configurations were added.
